Texas Counties Deliver – learn how county government serves you

INVESTMENTS

The Public Funds Investment Act (PFIA) governs the investment of government funds in Texas. Under this law, specific parameters are set for Texas counties, requiring them to adopt an investment policy and to designate one or more investment officers who are required to attend an approved training course.

The Treasurer, the County Auditor as Chief Financial Officer, and the Investment Officer must attend at least one training session, ten hours in length, within 12 months after taking office and must take eight hours of instruction every two years after the initial training session. The Commissioners Court of each county appoints the investment officer or officers.
